Broken Hills Daffodils Regenerative Landscaping LLC provides services related to regenerative landscapes and ecological gardening to Northern Virginia and Washington DC, including but not limited to: landscape design, landscape installation, landscape maintenance, irrigation, composting, and the sale of seeds and saplings.

Started by Jake Hackman, who spent several years as an engineer before realizing that he could better spend his time providing both food for people and habitat for wildlife.

Broken Hills is the name of the street Jake grew up on. The daffodils growing near that road are native to Eurasia, so they must have been planted by some settler whose cabin has long since decomposed. While not native to this area, the daffodils spread slowly and do not cause problems, unlike the Wysteria which must be cut back to keep it from strangling the trees.

This clear difference between exotic plants and invasive plants is important to BHD’s design philosophy – we want to increase the native species that provide for native wildlife, but we are also happy to keep the exotic plants that aren’t causing problems.
